Gum surgery treats advanced gum disease (periodontitis) or corrects cosmetic gum concerns that cannot be resolved with cleaning alone. It is recommended when deep pockets, bone loss, or gum recession have progressed beyond what non-surgical therapy can address.
We offer osseous surgery (pocket reduction), gum grafts to treat recession, crown lengthening, and cosmetic gum recontouring. The appropriate procedure depends on your diagnosis and goals.
Gum surgery is performed under local anesthesia. Most patients manage post-operative discomfort with over-the-counter pain medication for 3–5 days. IV sedation is available for patients who prefer a more relaxed experience.
Initial healing takes 1–2 weeks. Full tissue maturation occurs over 2–3 months. Most patients return to work within a few days and resume normal diet within 2 weeks.
Untreated periodontitis leads to progressive bone and attachment loss around your teeth, eventually causing tooth loss. It is also linked to systemic conditions including heart disease, diabetes complications, and adverse pregnancy outcomes.
Most dental insurance plans cover medically necessary periodontal procedures. Coverage varies by plan and diagnosis. We verify your benefits before scheduling.
