What Oral Surgery Really Is

Surgery of the Mouth, Jaw, and Face — Handled by Specialists.

Oral surgery covers the procedures that go beyond everyday dentistry — removing impacted wisdom teeth, placing dental implants, rebuilding bone, correcting jaw problems, and diagnosing lesions of the mouth and face. These are surgical procedures, which means the skill, judgment, and training of the person performing them matters enormously.

A general dentist refers you to a surgeon for the same reason your primary care doctor refers you to a cardiologist — because some things require a specialist. At Bublik Dental, oral surgery isn't a side service. It's our daily practice, done by two clinicians who have spent their careers focused on exactly this work.

What We Do

Surgical Care From Extractions to Full Reconstruction

🦷

Tooth Extractions & Wisdom Teeth

From straightforward removals to deeply impacted wisdom teeth, we handle extractions with surgical precision and thoughtful sedation options. Most patients are surprised by how smooth the recovery actually is.

⚙️

Dental Implant Placement

Implants are permanent — so the surgery behind them has to be planned and placed with long-term precision. We use 3D imaging and guided techniques to put implants exactly where your bone and bite need them.

🧱

Bone Grafting & Ridge Preservation

When bone has been lost to extraction, trauma, or time, we rebuild it so future implants and restorations have a stable foundation. Preserving the ridge at the time of extraction often saves patients years of complication.

💤

IV Sedation & Surgical Safety

Our office is equipped for in-office IV sedation with full monitoring, so you can sleep through your procedure and wake up without the blur of a hospital day. Safety protocols are hospital-grade — because surgery deserves nothing less.

Board-Certified OMS. Surgical Implantology. One Practice.

Dr. Shepard is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) — the specialty board for full-scope OMS. Triple-trained in bioengineering (Rice University), dentistry (UT Health Houston), and medicine (UAB residency), he served as Chief Resident of OMS at UAB. His surgical scope spans implants, corrective jaw surgery, facial trauma, and pathology.

Dr. Bublik trained at Palacky University, completing his OMS residency at University Hospital Olomouc before finishing an Advanced General Dentistry residency at the Eastman Institute. Dr. Shepard holds full hospital-trained oral & maxillofacial surgery credentials from UAB — including facial trauma, pathology, and corrective jaw work. Together they cover the full spectrum, from a single wisdom tooth to full-arch reconstruction.

That's what we mean by big-city expertise, right here in Central Wisconsin. You don't have to drive to Madison or Milwaukee for surgical care at this level.

Oral Surgery — Frequently Asked Questions

Bublik Dental offers a full range of oral surgery including tooth extractions, wisdom teeth removal, dental implant placement, bone grafting, sinus lifts, jaw surgery, biopsies, and treatment of facial trauma. Dr. Jan Bublik brings 30 years of oral surgery and implantology experience; Dr. William Shepard, DDS, MD is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. All procedures are available with IV sedation.
Oral surgery is performed under local anesthesia, with IV sedation available for anxious patients or complex procedures. Post-operative discomfort is typically manageable with medication for 3–5 days.
IV sedation produces a deeply relaxed, sleep-like state with no memory of the procedure. Bublik Dental uses a certified nurse anesthesiologist (CRNA) for all IV sedation cases with continuous monitoring. It is extremely safe for healthy adults.
Recovery varies by procedure: simple extractions 3–5 days, wisdom teeth 5–7 days, implant placement 7–10 days. Detailed post-op instructions are provided at your appointment.
Dental insurance typically covers medically necessary extractions, biopsies, and some implant procedures. Medical insurance may cover jaw surgery or trauma repair. Call 715-391-3080 — we verify benefits before treatment.
No referral is required. Call Bublik Dental directly at 715-391-3080. We accept self-referrals and referrals from general dentists throughout central Wisconsin.
