Dentofacial Orthopedics —
Guide Growth. Shape the Face.
Orthopedic jaw guidance during childhood can correct bite discrepancies, improve facial symmetry, and reduce the need for surgery later in life.
Book a ConsultationDentofacial orthopedics focuses on guiding the growth of the facial bones — particularly the jaw — during childhood, when bone is still pliable and highly responsive to gentle, sustained pressure from appliances.
This differs from orthodontics (moving teeth) by addressing the underlying skeletal structure. Correcting jaw discrepancies early can prevent the need for jaw surgery in adulthood.
- Corrects underbites, overbites, and crossbites at the bone level
- Promotes balanced facial symmetry and growth
- Improves chewing, breathing, and speaking function
- Reduces or eliminates the need for future jaw surgery
- Coordinates with ENT and other specialists as needed
Appliances Used
Palatal Expanders — widen the upper jaw to correct crossbites and create space for teeth.
Face Masks (Reverse Pull Headgear) — guide upper jaw growth forward to correct underbites.
Functional Appliances — various devices that modify the position of the jaw and encourage proper growth patterns.
Collaboration
Dr. Bublik works alongside ENT specialists and other providers — particularly for children whose breathing or tonsil and adenoid issues affect jaw development.
The window for orthopedic jaw guidance is narrower than most parents realize. If your child has a bite discrepancy or jaw asymmetry, early evaluation gives you the most options. Further orthodontics may still be required — but the foundation we build now makes everything easier.
